We're in this Thing!

The Giants completed the series sweep of the Rockies despite some bonehead calls by Bochy. We are now the Wild Card leaders. Zito also continues to be a beast, and Rowand is in my doghouse. Go Giants!

Meanwhile, Down on the Farm....

Everyone knows the Gigante's farm system is one of the best in baseball led by the star-studded SJ Giants. With studs in Connecticut like MadBum and Tim Alderson we should be set. Not 2 mention the next Miguel Cabrera, Angel Villalona complemented by guys like Thomas Neal and Roger Kieschnick. Buster Posey will become a stud to and by 2011, the Giants are ready 2 contend 4 a title.

A Third of the Way Through

The Giants are above .500 and have just had a winning May, and we're playing against the hapless Nationals this week (or Natinals, as it said on the front of Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman's jerseys for one game). Maybe we'll be buyers at the deadline. Matt Holliday, anyone?
The Giants have seen their very good pitching staff have its own share of woes, from the hitting to just plain-old inconsistency. Randy Johnson has seen it all. He'll be going for win 300 against the aforementioned Nationals in Washington, but it all hasn't been fantastic for him. He has been inconsistent, or consistently bad on the road and good at home. He hasn't had much offense behind him. His run support is second to last in the league, behind only Barry Zito, who I'll talk about later. Randy will be the last man to win 300, and we should look upon this Wednesday in awe.
Barry Zito has been pitching surprisingly well, and he's 1-6. Actually, he has pitched a lot of quality games that just could not produce a W for the Giants. It was mostly his fault for the fact that he can't hold a lead for his life, but his ERA, which is fluctuating around 4, is a massive improvement over last year's chuck and duck season.
The rotation I hoped for at the beginning of the year was nowhere close to what the Giants got. Instead of CC Sabathia, we got Randy Johnson. Noah Lowry has had setback after setback. Lowry was probably mistreated by the doctors, but he cannot possibly be completely in the right here. He claims that the Giants team doctors misdiagnosed him, which is probably true. However, he continued to throw his team under the bus, which pretty much means his Giants career is over. His overall career may be over. Instead of the beleaguered Lowry, we got the inconsistent Johnathan Sanchez, who sometimes can't buy a strike. He has been the most disappointing starter this year.
Matt Cain, on the other hand, has been a revelation. He has been amazing, posting a 6-1 record and has been the stopper of Giants losing streaks. Tim Lincecum has gotten little support, and is 4-1. Lincecum is fighting for the league lead in Ks with Johan Santana, Javier Vazquez, Jake Peavy, Roy Halladay, and Zach Greinke.

Opening Day Glory

Ishikawa had 3 RBI's, and Rowand (!), Molina, and Winn each homered. Also, Lincecum was wild, erratic, and charitable with his pitches, leading to a 3 inning start. Good news for Lincecum: Although this ties for the shortest start of any defending Cy Young champion, the last one to pitch this badly in his first start to defend his crown was Sandy Koufax. He ended up winning the Cy Young that year, AGAIN, and now is enshrined in Cooperstown.
Hey, undefeated so far, and we are tied for the division lead. What could be better?

The Giants Offseason

The offseason has stalled for the Giants, so this post will have to do with other sports. Congratulations to the Steelers and the Cardinals for making it to the Super Bowl. The fact that the Cardinals are in the Super Bowl may go far to prove that the NFC West is not as bad as it looks. Now the 49ers are looking up, so there may actually be some national competition coming from that division to come. This may be a bold statement, but it seems fairly accurate: If the Cards win the SB, then they may not be the favorite to win the consensus worst division in the league. Since they have an aging QB, and a tumultuous backup spot, I don't see the Cardinals being as good next year. In fact, I predict another odd season in the West, with the 49ers winning the division with a 9-7 record, and losing in the 2nd round to the Minnesota Vikings (12-4), after beating the 10-6 Packers in the 1st round.
The Warriors are really bad. They might just be the worst team in the league and this point, and this is overlooking a team like the Thunder, who beat the Warriors on a buzzer beater last night. The Warriors, surprisingly, are a 30-game win-streak away from being in the playoff picture in the dogfight that is known as the Western Conference.
The Giants, on the other hand, are also looking up, but they need a bat. If they find one, they are playoff bound, but if not, get ready for another season of mediocrity.

Football

Well, I have no take on the recent happenings in baseball, with nothing half-interesting happening. I will make some comments about football. First and foremost, I pick the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
Mark Sanchez does not seem like the type of QB who will lead his team to ivctory, so his declaring for the draft is not worth mentioning beyond a passing note.
Anquan Boldin will play on Sunday against the Eagles, and Westbrook will not, according to Garbanzo Enterprises Stats LLC (GEStatsLLC). Garbanzo Enterprises gives the Eagles plus 7 (meaning they are 7 point underdogs) if Westbrook does not play. As of now, there is no line.
The Baltimore Ravens will need a big game from Joe Flacco to get to The Big Game, and they will get it, according to me.
Mike Nolan has been signed as Defensive Coordinator of the Broncos, after they recently hired former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as Head Coach. Take from that what you will, but GEStatsLLC puts Denver down as the worst defense of the year in 09-10.
Sam Bradford will stay in Oklahoma next season. He will be a true pro in the NFL, so teams with top picks should be saddened by this announcement. I feel he would be a good pick for the 49ers. Tim Tebow would not, and I hope he does not get drafted by a Californian team.
