The Giants are above .500 and have just had a winning May, and we're playing against the hapless Nationals this week (or
Natinals, as it said on the front of Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman's jerseys for one game). Maybe we'll be buyers at the deadline. Matt
Holliday, anyone?
The Giants have seen their very good pitching staff have its own share of woes, from the hitting to just plain-old inconsistency. Randy Johnson has seen it all. He'll be going for win 300 against the aforementioned Nationals in Washington, but it all hasn't been fantastic for him. He has been inconsistent, or consistently bad on the road and good at home. He hasn't had much offense behind him. His run support is second to last in the league, behind only Barry
Zito, who I'll talk about later. Randy will be the last man to win 300, and we should look upon this Wednesday in awe.
Barry
Zito has been pitching surprisingly well, and he's 1-6. Actually, he has pitched a lot of quality games that just could not produce a W for the Giants. It was mostly his fault for the fact that he can't hold a lead for his life, but his ERA, which is fluctuating around 4, is a massive improvement over last year's chuck and duck season.
The rotation I hoped for at the beginning of the year was nowhere close to what the Giants got. Instead of CC
Sabathia, we got Randy Johnson. Noah
Lowry has had setback after setback.
Lowry was probably mistreated by the doctors, but he cannot possibly be completely in the right here. He claims that the Giants team doctors misdiagnosed him, which is probably true. However, he continued to throw his team under the bus, which pretty much means his Giants career is over. His overall career may be over. Instead of the
beleaguered Lowry, we got the inconsistent Johnathan Sanchez, who sometimes can't buy a strike. He has been the most disappointing starter this year.
Matt Cain, on the other hand, has been a revelation. He has been amazing, posting a 6-1 record and has been the stopper of Giants losing streaks. Tim Lincecum has gotten little support, and is 4-1. Lincecum is fighting for the league lead in Ks with Johan Santana, Javier Vazquez, Jake Peavy, Roy Halladay, and Zach Greinke.
